Channel Sport is a rebirth of a retail identity—a concept store where fashion meets hospitality in a setting designed to attract, intrigue, and engage. With its sculpted product displays, inviting lounge atmosphere, and refined lighting design, the space sets a new standard for sports fashion retail in Iran’s cultural and athletic heart.
The client, owner of the Channel Sport brand, aimed to bring the identity and spirit of the store back to life after years of inactivity. Located in the Enghelab Tennis Complex—a venue with constant foot traffic from athletes and families—the client saw the opportunity to transform a dormant retail unit into a revitalized, high-impact concept store. The goal was to combine a fashion-forward shopping environment with the casual intimacy of a living room or private showroom. It had to be expressive, functional, and visually magnetic from the outside. As this project took place during the height of the COVID-19 lockdowns, it also required agility, speed, and strict coordination due to restrictions on work hours and access.
Green Square led the design while Vandad Development executed the project with full construction and fit-out. The concept was to create a boutique experience that didn’t feel like a conventional store. Upon entering, visitors would find themselves in a spatial narrative blending home-like comfort with product display precision. A large central Persian rug anchors the space, upon which sits a vintage leather couch and a long communal-style dining table. Surrounding this central scene are custom-designed glass-enclosed bookshelves, used to elevate sportswear and accessories into curated vignettes. One full wall was converted into a closed display box visible from outside, lined with neon signage and blue fabric, creating allure while maintaining brand mystique. Every element—display racks, lighting, flooring, and textiles—was designed and fabricated specifically for this location.

The palette was intentionally warm, tactile, and durable. The floors were finished in anti-scratch commercial-grade vinyl, ensuring longevity despite heavy foot traffic. A finely woven Persian carpet was selected as a centerpiece to juxtapose modern sportswear against tradition. Blue velvet curtains lined all windows, acting as both light control and brand identity reinforcement. Wall displays were built from custom metal shelving, powder-coated in matte black and anchored into oak-framed structures. Behind the glass displays, fine fabric panels served as soft, textured backdrops. All electrical and data wiring was concealed within millwork, while smart lighting zones were programmed to highlight key merchandise with directional spotlights and LED channels

The project took place during peak COVID conditions, meaning construction access was highly restricted. Since the store is located within a high-traffic sports complex, all work had to be conducted inside the unit, and windows had to be covered throughout to avoid any disruption to visitors or athletes. External cleanliness was enforced daily. The team had to complete the build under tight timelines due to high rent, which added urgency to material procurement and coordination with the design team. Additionally, the integration of neon signage, custom lighting, and shelving required precision fabrication with no room for on-site error. Despite these pressures, Vandad Development delivered the store on time, preserving both brand vision and execution quality.

Vandad Ghooparanloo is a renowned professional engineer dedicated to the rehabilitation of historical buildings. Graduating with honors in civil and architectural engineering from a prestigious Canadian university in 2009, Vandad began his career in heavy construction, specializing in tunneling. He obtained his Professional Engineers Ontario certification in 2014, marking his competence and dedication in engineering.
Driven by a passion for historical preservation, Vandad moved to Iran in 2015. There, he collaborated with architects and engineers on a wide range of projects including high-rise buildings, museums, cafes, and offices. In 2016, he founded Vandad Development, focusing on design and renovation. His remarkable work on the Argo Museum earned the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 2019, showcasing his skill in blending historical integrity with modern standards.
Vandad’s commitment to quality and innovation has earned him industry accolades and affiliations with prestigious organizations such as the Tunneling Association of Canada and the Middle Eastern Society of Engineers and Architects. His career exemplifies a unique blend of engineering expertise and cultural preservation.
